Join MJ Fievre and Mahalia Solages as they talk to Dr. Yanela McLeod about her new book, The Miami Times and the Fight for Equality: Race, Sport, and the Black Press, 1948-1958 (Sport, Identity and Culture), which delves into the fascinating history of segregation at the Miami Springs Golf Course, and how a group of Black citizens resisted efforts to keep them segregated on the greens. Dr. McLeod also discusses her alma mater, Florida A&M University, the importance of historically Black colleges, the economics of racism, the wisdom of our elders, and the importance of Black media as a means to advocate, agitate and educate in the struggle for equality. MJ, Mahalia, and Dr. McLeod also discuss the upcoming 2020 Miami Book Fair Online, and which authors they are looking forward to viewing. Yanela Gordon McLeod is adjunct professor of history and director of Communications and Alumni Affairs for the College of Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities at Florida A&M University
