Christina Hammonds Reed: The Black Kids

In this episode of Badass Black Girl, MJ talks with Christina Hammonds Reed about her debut coming of age novel The Black Kids, which is set against the backdrop of the L.A. riots, and why it is especially relevant today. They discuss the importance of telling stories of both class and race, Christina's background in filmmaking, and how that informed her novel-writing process. They also discuss her appearance at the 2020 Miami Book Fair Online, and other upcoming events.



Christina Hammonds Reed holds an MFA from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. A native of the Los Angeles area, her work has previously appeared in the Santa Monica Review and One Teen Story. The Black Kids is her first novel.
